Software For Rolls Royce

January 2008

In January 2008 Zytec was commissioned to develop IPC software and commission a new handling and sortation system for Rolls Royce.

A Festo IPC, backplate with I/O modules and remote I/O connected on a Profibus DP Network with a Festo Designer 6 HMI connected to the IPC via Ethernet.

The handling and sortation system comprised of two main sections, the divert section that determined the parts and either diverted them into the machine or to an existing machine. The handling section that prepared parts to be offered to either the ELE machine or the BLAST machine.

The handling system also buffered parts if either ELE or BLAST machines were full with a maximum of thirty parts per machine. This buffer also held the part information ready for transferring.

The software was developed utilising the FST4 software with all operator variables selectable from the Festo HMI. The commissioning phase of the project was completed across three separate stages as the other machines were added in phases. The new system provides Rolls Royce with flexibility of increasing the usage of existing production lines with inclusion of the new blade parts
