Zytec Stacks Up With a Shelf Welding Cell For The Czech Republic

In 2008 a local expert in welding solutions employed Zytec Systems ltd to provide electrical design, software development and commissioning for a multi-head shelf welding machine to be installed in the
The machine consisted of 32 weld heads driven from 8 weld timers that were controlled by a Siemens S7:315 PLC with an OP17 operator interface. The shelves were positioned by means of a Siemens Servo that was connected to the PLC via Profibus DP. The complete system was designed to automatically handle and position the shelves so that the shelf stiffener could automatically be positioned and welded into place.
The System was configured so that additional types of shelves and a various number of stiffeners could be produced and that a cycle time of less than ten seconds for each shelf was achieved.
The installation and commissioning of this machine was the final stage of a complete new line which has provided the client with a turnkey package that produces shelves at high volume with low production personnel.
The contract proved to be a great success and a further three machines are to be ordered shortly.
