In 2009 Zytec Systems Ltd was awarded a contract to over haul an Investment casting facility’s process, to further enhance and reduce down time.
The existing PLC’s were all replaced with current Mitsubishi hardware, and the SCADA system was also replaced and rewritten as the system was no longer supported by the respective manufacturer.
The PLC software was rewritten in a step like format to enable the SCADA system to display all wait messages to aid in identifying any faults quickly to reduce any potential down time.
The sequence operation of the plant was also enhanced to dramatically reduce cycle time, thus increasing productivity.
Additional benefit of upgrading the system was retrieve key track and product reports which are vital for traceability of the product/s.
The operation of the plant is 24/7 and due to the importance of this full training was given to maintenance and also operations. With such a diverse amount of people, anyone from those departments are able to safely and correctly operate the system.
