December 2009.

In 2009 a local business employed Zytec Systems ltd to develop the PLC software and commission an automatic canvas stapling machine.

A Festo CPX with I/O modules and three Festo CMMP servo drives was utilized for the control of the System.

 

The system comprised of three positioning multi-turn servos that positioned the frame and canvas. Various valves then tensioned the canvas and folded the canvas ready for the fast response stapler to be positioned and fired. Six separate products are selectable requiring different positioning and recovery requirements.

 

The machine was proven and acquired a cycle time of less than forty-five seconds. With a further two machines to be completed to increase production with faster and more reliable results and eventually reduce manning levels, thus increasing profitability.
